A successful Librarian candidate will be expected to take a highly creative and active role in the management, development and promotion of the wide range of services provided by the school library resource centre in addition to the day-to-day administration.

They will work closely with teachers from all faculties to ensure the library contributes effectively to the delivery of the curriculum and support pupils to develop skills necessary to make effective use of resources. The School Librarian will be required to keep abreast of new developments in the provision of a school library resource service and developments in the use of ICT. They will also be required to manage the library budget/resources effectively and have a high degree of organisational skills.

Pay- Salary is dependent on experience, training, or qualifications ranging from £28,819-£34,451 per annum. The minimum experience, training or qualifications required for this position are shown below.

Requirements

To be considered for this position of a School Librarian you will need to consider the following job requirements :

• To process new library stock.
• To withdraw stock which is of no further use to the library.
• To note general stock gaps and unanswered specific questions.
• To produce lists of new books by subject area for staff.
• To maintain an illustrations and cuttings file and index, retaining suitable illustrations from withdrawn books or colour supplements if appropriate.
• To act as an information source for staff by liaison with School Libraries’ Service.
• To assist in user education programmes organised by the Teacher/Librarian.
• Exam invigilating.
• To produce an annual report to Governors and Heads of Curriculum on library stock and developmental needs in relation to the librarian’s role in supporting the school and its pupils.
• To participate in primary/secondary school liaison initiatives including the development of transition library sessions in the summer term.
• To take responsibility for personal and professional development in keeping up to date with new facilities and technologies relevant to the LRC.
• Any other duties commensurate with the post as directed by the Headteacher
